Facing growing population and decreasing water supplies, communities around the world have recognized the need to ensure a safe, sustainable, and local water supply. Decades of research have translated into everyday technologies that allow communities to diversify their “portfolio” of water sources. These technologies have been tested and perfected in communities throughout the world, providing important guidance for communities that must address these issues anew. More research at the local, national, and international levels continues to be necessary to ensure that the right water is available in the right places at the right time.
